About the project
Delivery platforms take a cut of every order. weserve sells restaurants the alternative: their own branded ordering site, an app to run the day's orders from, and delivery still arranged for them — booked out to Lalamove or GoGoVan rather than to riders of its own.
I built the front of that with one colleague over about six months: the customer side people order from, and the admin side restaurants work in. Both are Expo, so a single codebase serves the app and the web, with Ant Design Mobile across it and Firebase underneath. The dispatching itself, the cloud printer in the kitchen, the SMS — those live in the platform's backend, which was another part of the team; ours was everything the two audiences actually touch.
Restaurant software gets judged at seven in the evening. An order that stalls then is not a bug report, it is a room full of people waiting — so the interface has to make the state of every order obvious at a glance, on a phone, to somebody who is already busy.
